LEAVES OF ABSENCE

  • The following resolution was adopted:
    RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following faculty members be and they are hereby granted leave of absence:
  • Mr. James C. Baxter, Assistant Professor of History, for one year, effective September 1, 1979, to pursue research.
  • Dr. Barbara Z. Berk, Assistant Professor of Medicine, General Faculty, and Physician, Department of Student Health, for the period June 1, 1979, through June 15, 1979, for personal reasons.
  • Mr. Gordon Braden, Assistant Professor of English, for the period January 16, 1980, through January 16, 1981, to accept an NEH Fellowship.
  • Mr. R. Leonard Brown, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, for one year, effective September 1, 1979, to do research.
  • Mr. James F. Buck, Assistant Professor of Commerce, for the period May 31, 1979, through May 31, 1980, to accept an appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor at East Carolina University.
  • Mr. Edward F. Connor, Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences, for the period September 1, 1979, through August 31, 1980, to take a post-doctoral fellowship at Oxford.
  • Miss Cora A. Diamond, Associate Professor of Philosophy, for one semester, effective January 16, 1980, to accept an appointment as Visiting Associate Professor of Philosophy at Western Washington University.
  • Mr. Charles E. Echols, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, for the period September 1, 1979, through January 15, 1980, for personal reasons.

  • Mr. Kenneth G. Elzinga, Professor of Economics, for one semester, effective September 1, 1979, to do research and writing; and for one semester one-half time, effective January 16, 1980, without pay, to do research and writing.
  • Mr. Gerald P. Fogarty, Associate Professor of Religious Studies, for one year, effective September 1, 1979, to accept an ACLS Fellowship.
  • Mr. Darryl J. Gless, Assistant Professor of English, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1979, to accept an NEH Fellowship.
  • Mr. Jeffrey K. Hadden, Professor of Sociology, for one semester, effective January 16, 1980, to do research.
  • Mr. Walter Hauser, Associate Professor of History, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1979, to pursue research under the Department of HEW Office of Education Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Program.
  • Mr. A. E. Dick Howard, White Burkett Miller Professor of Law and Public Affairs, for one semester, effective January 16, 1980, to accept visiting appointment at Boston University School of Law.
  • Mr. Harold B. Johnson, Jr., Associate Professor of History, for one semester, effective January 16, 1980, to pursue research.
  • Dr. Jan Langman, Professor of Anatomy, for the period May 1, 1979, through August 31, 1979, to continue research assignment at Institut fur Toxicologie und Embryonalphar-makologie, Freie Universitat, Berlin, Germany.
  • Mr. Gordon E. Latta, William Stansfield Calcott Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, for the period September 1, 1979, through August 31, 1980, to accept the first invited chair of Applied Math at the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California.
  • Mr. Romney M. S. Moseley, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, for the period September 1, 1979, through January 15, 1980, for health reasons.
  • Mr. James P. Piscatori, Assistant Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1979, to accept a fellowship from the Institute for the Study of World Politics and the Israeli Inter-University Consortium for Middle Eastern Studies.

  • Mr. Glen O. Robinson, John C. Stennis Professor of Law, for the period August 1, 1979, through January 15, 1980, to serve as Chairman of the United States Delegation to the 1979 World Administrative Radio Conference to be held in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Mr. Lawrence E. Rose, Assistant Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1979, to accept a Fulbright-Hays grant to lecture and undertake research in Norway, and to serve as a visiting professor in the Institute of Political Science at the University of Oslo.
  • Mr. John A. Rotondo, Assistant Professor of Psychology, for one semester, effective September 1, 1979, to accept a visiting appointment at the University of California at Irvine.
  • Mr. James L. Rovnyak, Professor of Mathematics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1979, to accept the Senior U.S. Scientist Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in West Germany.
  • Mr. Andrew C. Ruppel, Associate Professor of Commerce, for the period May 31, 1979, through May 31, 1981, to serve as senior officer with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.
