RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE CONTINUATION OF STUDENT PARTICIPATION
AS OUTLINED IN RESOLUTIONS OF MAY 28, 1976 AND OCTOBER 14, 1976

  • The following resolution was adopted as recommended by the Special Committee to Improve Communications Between the Board and the Student Body:
  • WHEREAS the Board of Visitors values discussions with student leaders on a continuing basis; and
  • WHEREAS the Board has established guidelines for the participation of student representatives in the deliberations of the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee; and
  • WHEREAS this procedure appears to be effective and beneficial for both the Board of Visitors and the Student Body;
  • NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the procedures for student participation be continued as outlined in resolutions of this Board adopted May 28, 1976 and October 14, 1976 which contain the following provisions:
    • 1. The President and Vice-President of the Student Council will be invited to meetings of the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee on a regular basis, and additional student leaders will be invited from time to time.
    • 2. In addition to its regular meetings, the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee will hold special meetings with representatives of the University Community from time to time.
    • 3. The Chairman of the Honor Committee will have access through usual administrative channels (Section 5.3 of the Manual) to the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee (See Manual Section 2.4)

    • 4. The Chairman of the Athletic Advisory Committee (The 5-4-4 Committee) will be invited to meet once each year with the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee.
    • 5. Members of the Board will, insofar as is possible, attend the annual fall conference customarily held at Graves Mountain Lodge.
    • 6. The Board will sponsor an annual informal social function to which student leaders will be invited.
    • 7. The entire membership of the Athletic Advisory Committee (the 5-4-4 Committee) will be invited to a special meeting of the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee in January 1977 and on an annual basis thereafter.
    • 8. The Vice-President for Student Affairs and the President will review agenda items prior to each Board meeting and will identify the items which have a direct effect on students or upon the issues for which Student Council has specific responsibilities. These items will be discussed by the Vice-President with the Student Council representatives, and they will be included on the agenda of the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee which will be distributed in advance.
