SHERIFFS OF CAROLINE

This office dates back to 1634. Became an elective office
with the Constitution of 1851. Prior to that time the office
was usually held by the presiding Justice of the County Court.
The following men have served since the office became elective:
Alexander Scott, Samuel Swann, T. D. Coghill, W. J. Collawn
and T. B. Gill.
