RESOLUTION ON THE FINAL EXERCISES

  • The following resolution was adopted:
  • WHEREAS, the Final Exercises at the University had been increasingly marred in recent years by drinking and by rowdy and disruptive behavior; and
  • WHEREAS, the faculty, friends of the University, many students and the families of graduating students were deeply concerned about these problems; and
  • WHEREAS, students, faculty and administrators, but above all members of the Class of 1989, worked together during the past academic session to end these problems; and
  • WHEREAS, the Final Exercises of 1989 were a most successful return to the University tradition of a joyful and exuberant but dignified celebration of Commencement;
  • NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board commends everyone who worked to make the Final Exercises such a success, most particularly the members of the Class of 1989;
  • RESOLVED FURTHER that the Board wishes to hold the Class of 1989 as an example to future graduating classes of the kind of spirit and determination that can ensure the success of the Final Exercises.
