Chiefly letters of Outlaw, a Bertie County Whig, North Carolina, written to his wife while he was a member of Congress (1847-1853). During his absences Outlaw's farm was run by his slave, George. Letters include directions for the hiring-out of slaves (1847); discussions of the institution of slavery (1849- 1850); and the abolition of the slave trade in the District of Columbia (1849).
