STATEMENT OF THE RECTOR

Mr. Joseph H. McConnell advised that this is his last regular meeting, and he praised the Board for its wisdom during his tenure as Rector. He noted that though most institutions of higher learning had experienced difficulty and turbulence during the last six years, the University of Virginia had emerged strong and that it had grown steadily in its stature as an important center of learning. He expressed thanks and appreciation also to the President and his staff for guiding the University so successfully. He expressed special thanks to Mr. W. Wright Harrison, the retiring chairman of the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee.
