CHANGE IN GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT ACTIVITY FUND ALLOCATION

  • The following resolution was adopted:
    RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that Section 4 of the Guidelines for Student Activity Fund Allocation adopted by the Board of Visitors on June 1, 1973 reading:

  • (4) the admission to the organization may not be restricted by reason of race, religion, national origin, sex (except for competitive athletics), or political affiliation. In determining such discrimination, it is not sufficient to look merely to the constitution of such an organization but to its actual practices and operations;
  • be and it is hereby changed to read as follows:
    (4) the admission to the organization may not be restricted by reason of race, religion, national origin, political affiliation, or sex. Notwithstanding these requirements, a club sport may restrict membership based on sex where selection for such teams is based upon competitive skill or the activity involved is a contact sport. Organizations may also make requirements based on vocal range or quality which may result in a chorus or choruses of one or predominantly one sex. In determining cases of discrimination, it is not sufficient to look merely to the constitution of such an organization but to its actual practices and operations.
