NEW FACULTY SALARY SCALE

The Chancellor recalled that the Board, at its meeting on 13 June 1959, had approved a new
faculty salary scale at the College to become effective on 1 September 1960. At that time, he did
not believe that the College would have sufficient funds to adopt the scale approved by the Governor
for the session of 1959-1960. Accordingly, he requested permission to present the matter at
a later time should it develop that funds would be available to make this new salary scale effective
at a date earlier than 1 September 1960. He reported that sufficient funds were now available for
this purpose but that it was necessary to put the salary scale into effect prior to the present
meeting of the Board. Accordingly, he had received approval from the President and the Rector to
adopt the new salary scale on an interim basis subject to action by the Board.

The following resolution was adopted

RESOLVED by the Board of Visitors of The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia
that the following faculty salary scale for Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia,
effective as of 1 February 1960, be and it is hereby approved

Instructor  4450  4700  4950  5200
Assistant
Professor
5250  5500  5750  6000  6250
Associate
Professor
5850  6175  6500  6825  7150  7475
Professor  7050  7400  7750  8100  8450  8800  9150

The Chancellor reported that, under the new salary scale to become effective on 1 February
1960, four instructors on the faculty would receive an increase of only $25 for the second semester.
He requested, therefore, that these four instructors be granted a one-step increase which
would permit them to receive a salary increase of $150 for the second semester of the session of
1959-1960.

The following resolution was adopted

RESOLVED by the Board of Visitors of The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia

the salary of four members of its faculty, effective 1 February 1960, as shown below
