Manuscript, Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia; Poe, an enlisted soldier, is now stationed at Fort Moultrie in Charleston, South Carolina. He is dissatisfied and claims that he is wasting the prime of his life. He pleads to John Allan to secure his release from the Army and states that he is so anxious to leave that he may do so without such permission.
