Letter, postmarked August 19, 1836; Edgar Allan Poe to Hiram Haines, editor of the Constellation, asking him to review the August 1836 issue of Southern Literary Messenger, a literary magazine which Poe edited from 1835-1837. The August issue included Poe's "Israfel," along with works by James Kirke Paulding, Lydia Huntley Sigourney, William Gilmore Simms, and others.
