The Piper of Hamelin | ||
The Legend of the Pied Piper appears in the folk-lore of several countries, and has been localized even in England, on the banks of the Solent. It has been thought advisable, however, to keep the scene of the present opera in Germany. While the plot of the first act follows to a great extent the well-known legend versified by Browning, the scheme of the second act, including the restoration of the children, is entirely new and original.
