Venice whose power did all the Sea command,
And saith, now Iove show thy Tarpeian Towers
And walls of Mars, unto this scite, now ours.
If thou before the mighty Ocean dare
The petty River Tiber to compare,
Behold both Cities there give up this doome,
The Gods built Venice, Men erected Rome.
