Perchè mai, se in pianto e in pene,Per me tutto si cangiò,
La memoria del mio bene
Dal mio sen non trapassò!

When bliss, like morning's blush, shall stray,
And eve but brings us sorrow's dew;
When all of joy has pass'd away,
Ah! why flies not its memory too?
