Your eyes and mine are turned towards the light.
How can our footsteps tend towards the night?
They do not, cannot:—though above our road
Sorrow and cloud are gathering like a load.
For learn this secret:—'Tis to be allowed
To make a silver lining to our cloud:
And we will turn the dark to daylight by
That one clear lamp, our own fidelity.
You will be faithful—will you? This I know:
I shall not leave you till you make me go.
