XXVIII. SEA-COTE, SAINT BEES.

Above the grey-blue beach and yellow sand
Is set a milk-white hostelry apart,
Simple without, within of simple heart
And simple fare and hospitable hand.
To morning sun and evening twilight stand
Its portals open—groan of wain or cart
Comes seldom, round its eaves the swallows dart,
No noise disturbs the work their loves have planned.
Here oft the sea-bird's unfamiliar cry
Is borne to him who dreams upon his bed,
Hushed into slumber by the ocean's sound;
And when the sun beyond dark Tomline's head
Has set aflame the sea and the wide sky,
Here rest is sure, and healthful sleep is found.
