On WINE.
From a Fragment of Hesiod,
Wine chears our Hearts, and makes us glad,
When Grief, and Cares have left us sad:
But more than Nature does suffice,
Will cast a Cloud before our Eyes;
When Grief, and Cares have left us sad:
But more than Nature does suffice,
Will cast a Cloud before our Eyes;
'Twill bind the Tongue, the Feet, and Hands;
E're we perceive, with strongest Bands;
And us its Drunken Slaves will keep,
Till we our Freedom get by Sleep.
E're we perceive, with strongest Bands;
And us its Drunken Slaves will keep,
Till we our Freedom get by Sleep.
