SONG.
[Know, Strephon, once I lov'd you more]
1
Know, Strephon, once I lov'd you moreThan Misers do their Wealth;
I took from Heaven you to adore,
And thought no Sin i'th' Stealth:
I knew no Joys, but what you gave,
Nor ever had a Thought
Of any state beyond your Slave,
Freedom I never sought.
2
But since your strange Ingratitude,Cou'd the soft Favours slight,
For which your Rivals vainly su'd,
Know you've no longer Right,
To the least Joy that I can give,
So unconcern'd I'le prove,
The World shall easily believe
That I did never love.
