Where shivering through the leafy shade
September breathes a gloom,
Lo! yonder apple-tree arrayed
In all its vernal bloom!
Say, did Pomona bid it blow
At Meliora's suit?
Portentous in its lovely glow,
Behold forbidden fruit.
