On the Curtain of his Mistress's Picture.
1
VVonder-hider tell me why,Thou deniest to our sight,
And forbid'st our longing eye,
from her most refulgent light.
2
Grand-usurper let us see,Thy (too rich) concealed treasure,
That our fancies all with thee,
May perticipate in pleasure.
3
Cover-heaven, be but pleased,Thy dark shadows to unfold,
Let our greedy sight be eased,
With thy more then orient gold.
4
No, we must not see what's under,Thou wilt still deny our suite,
Least our eyes be struck with wonder,
And our wonder strike us mute.
