The Donkey.
The donkey went to the pigeon's ball;
Next day he made a morning call:
He sent up a green leaf for a card,
By a pigeon housemaid in the yard.
Next day he made a morning call:
He sent up a green leaf for a card,
By a pigeon housemaid in the yard.
“Sir,” said the maid, “I'm sorry to say,
My lady don't receive to-day:
But if she had known that you would come,
I am very sure she'd be at home.”
My lady don't receive to-day:
But if she had known that you would come,
I am very sure she'd be at home.”
