DAFFODILS

There is one god anywise,
Spite of all the varying schools:
I have looked into his eyes.
Still he smiles in wayside pools,
Breathes in gardens, comes unbidden
O'er the dewy fields at dusk,
In the red haze wrapped and hidden,
Lurks within the rose's musk,
Shines from happy country faces,
Gleams on silent river spaces,
Whispers from the piny hills,
Murmurs in the meadow rills.
Look! I wonder if to-day
His soft foot-fall came this way—
Heaps and heaps of daffodils!
