As when two adverse storms, impetuous driv'n
From east and west, sail up the azure heav'n,
In flaming fields of day together run,
Explode their fires and blot with night the sun—
The eastern cloud, its flames expir'd at last,
Flies from the light'ning of the western blast:
So fled the corsair line the blighting stroke
Of freedom's thunder—so their battle broke—
As if by heav'n's own arm subdu'd at length,
Their courage chill'd, and wither'd all their strength.
