Cavaliers Go For Third Straight State Title Thursday

Team Plays Lynchburg College For First Time Since 1967.

Phi Gam captured the
Intramural touch football
championship last Friday and AEPi
won the Intramural volleyball
crown last Thursday night as the
fall season for sports comes to a
close.

Phi Gam, which defeated Sigma
Chi in the semi-finals, beat St.
Elmo's in the finals to average an
early season loss. The Gammers
were led in their championship drive
by Dick Kaspers, Rick Starr, and
Steve Nauss.

In the consolation playoffs for
football, Phi Sig turned back SPE
after beating St. Anthony's in the
semi-finals. SPE gained the loser's
final by prevailing over AEPi.

In the volleyball, AEPi
triumphed over Phi Kap in the
finals. AEPi, which was sparked by
the play of Larry Lipman and Herb
Beskins, beat PiKA in the previous
round while Phi Kap was defeating
Sigma Chi.

The consolation round in
volleyball was won by the Phi Sigs,
who claimed their second losers'
tournament of this fall. They edged
Phi Delt in a closely fought contest
last week.

The other fall sports which are
almost finished include three-man
basketball, handball, and tennis.
These sports should be completed
this week.

In three-man basketball, PiKA 1
has gained a spot in the finals by
beating the Zete 1 team in the
semis, In the other bracket, the
PiKA 2. team faces the Sigma Nu 1
team for the right to face PiKA 1 in
the finals.

In the tennis competition, Phi
Gam, PiKA, AEPi, and St.
Anthony's lead in the point totals
as the singles and doubles
tournaments are in the semi-finals.

In the singles, Dave Sharp of Phi
Gam. Jimmy Blair of PiKA, Ben
Edwards of AEPi, and John Antrim
of Phi Kap remain. In the doubles,
Sharp and Hodgdon of Phi Gam
play Edwards and Lipman of AEPi
in one half of the draw while
Antrim and Antrim of Phi Kap
challenge Garst and Chorey of Phi
Delt in the other half.

The handball is led by Phi Delt,
KA, Zete, and SAE with Slayton
and Landon of Phi Kap, Lough of
Phi Psi, and Bobo of SAE still left
in both the singles and doubles
contests.

The winter Intramural season
begins immediately, with squash,
Tug-o-war, and foul shooting on
the agenda. Independent basketball
got underway Monday night and
High Point basketball begins next
month.

Mary Munford Dormitory
grabbed both the Powder Puff
football crown and the volley ball
title in women's IMs this fall. The
talented Munford women defeated
the Graduate Girls in volleyball last
Tuesday evening after breezing
through the regular season
unbeaten. The football
championship was won two weeks
ago in a playoff.
