Student Arrested
For Drug Charge

By STEVE GRIMWOOD

Walter Biscoe Norris, Jr., third year
college student, was arrested yesterday
morning in his apartment and charged
with possession of marijuana and related
marijuana paraphernalia.

The arrest was made while Mr. Norris
was being served a warrant by State
Trooper Stephen Muslin in regards to another
charge dating from September 25.

On entering the apartment at No. 1
University Court, Mr. Muslin stated that he
observed a water pipe lined with what he
believed to be tin foil. There was an amount of
residue on the foil, he added, thus giving him
probable cause for a search and subsequent
arrest.

Mr. Norris is also being held for possession of
a controlled drug, methylenedioxyamthetamine.
According to Mr. Muslin, Mr. Norris was
picked up for hitch-hiking outside Staunton on
September 25. A search revealed the drug,
which was at that time sent to Richmond for
laboratory verification of its composition.

When the nature of the confiscated material
was reported to the State Police, a warrant was
issued. During the serving of this warrant, the
other arrest was made.

The arrest occurred at approximately 9:30
Tuesday morning. Mr. Muslin was accompanied
by Rea Houchens of the Department of
Security at the University.

Mr. Norris is currently in the Charlottesville
City jail under a combined bond of $1,000.
Trial date for the Marijuana charge is set for
December 7, and the Augusta County case will
be tried on December 14 in Staunton.
