Beth Israel.

The Hebrews of Charlottesville have
conducted a house of worship here for
at least half a century. The old synagogue
stood on the site of the handsome
new Federal building on Market street.
When the Goverment purchased the
property it donated to the congregation
all the old building material and
owing to this fact a handsome new
structure was erected in 1903 at the
corner of 3d and Jefferson Streets at a
comparatively small expenditure.
The Synagague has a seating capacity
for three hundred.
