CONTRACTS FOR FRANCES WILLARD HALL RE: ENCLOSING INTERIOR STAIRWAYS AND INSTALLATION OF SPRINKLER SYSTEM:

The following contracts were presented to the meeting of The Rector and the Board of Visitors held May 9,
at Fredericksburg, Virginia, by Mr. Christopher B. Garnett on behalf of the Committee of Mary Washington
College:

  • I. A Contract between James Fox and Sons, Contractors of Richmond, Virginia and The Rector and Visitors
    of the University of Virginia, in which the Contractor agrees to provide all materials, employ all labor
    and sublet the work as provided in said contract and perform all labor and work for enclosing interior
    stairways of Frances Willard Hall of Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia, as shown
    on the drawings and described in the specifications, Commission No. W-1B-29, dated June, 1945, prepared
    by J. Binford Walford - O. Pendleton Wright, Architects of Richmond, Virginia, at a total price guaranteed
    not to exceed the sum of $16,847.

  • II. A Contract between Century Sprinkler Corporation, Contractor of Richmond, Virginia and The Rector and
    Visitors of the University of Virginia, by which the Contractor agrees to provide all the materials
    and perform all the work for the installation of the sprinkler system in Frances Willard Hall, Mary
    Washington College of the University of Virginia, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Commission No. W-1B-31,
    dated January, 1947, including Addenda No. I and No. II, as shown on the drawings and described in the
    specifications prepared by J. Binford Walford - O. Pendleton Wright, Architects, for a total price of
    $18,117.

After full consideration, the following resolution was adopted:

RESOLVED, that Dr. J. L. Newcomb, President, be and is hereby authorized and directed to
execute the above contracts in the name and on behalf of The Rector and Visitors of the University
of Virginia, and that E. I. Carruthers, Secretary, is hereby instructed to affix the seal of the
University of Virginia to the Contract of James Fox and Sons and attest the same; the Contract
with Century Sprinkler Corporation be so drawn as not to require the Corporate Seal, and,

Upon proper execution of said Contracts, said E. I. Carruthers, Secretary, shall send the
originals of said Contracts to Edgar E. Woodward, Treasurer of Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg,
Virginia for delivery by him to said Contractors.
