A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Rector and Visitors was held on this date in the office of the
President, with the following members present: The Rector, E. R. Stettinius, Jr., Chairman; Anderson, Wailes
and President Newcomb; absent Gay and Carrington.

The following matters were discussed and approval given as noted:

  • 1. Woodrow Wilson School of Foreign Affairs. Discussion concerning Director and a faculty for this school.

  • 2. Graduate School of Business Administration. The Rector will report upon the situation in connection with
    the General Education Board.

  • 3. Principal University Appointments for 1947-48.

    • a. Dean of the Department of Engineering.

    • b. Faculty for the Graduate School of Education.

    • c. Faculty for the Woodrow Wilson School of Foreign Affairs.

  • 4. New Buildings Program.

    • a. Location of the Student Activities Building.

    • b. Discussion of plans for the Men's Dormitories.

    • c. A statement from the President about the situation in connection with the Women's Dormitory.

    • d. Cafeteria.

  • 5. Use of the Rotunda.

  • 6. Report from the Rector on Finals and Inauguration.

  • 7. Resolved by the Board of Visitors of the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the
    President be and he is hereby authorized to purchase the property known as "Piedmont", containing twelve
    and one-half acres more or less, and the houses thereon, at a price of $30,000, the purchase money to be
    paid from the private endowment fund of the University. Approved.

  • 8. Resolved by the Board of Visitors of the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the Bursar
    be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to Admiral William F. Halsey one hundred dollars per
    week for his expenses in connection with the fund-raising campaign and to carry the same as an advancement
    for the fund, the sum to be repaid from the receipts of the campaign. Approved.

  • 9. Resolved by the Board of Visitors of the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the President
    be and he is hereby authorized to make application to the War Department for the establishment of
    a R. O. T. C. unit in the Medical School of the University of Virginia. Approved.
