sublimity for which we are at a loss to find a parallel. The “Night
on the Terrapin Rocks,” and the “Mammoth Cave,” are written
in the same powerful style. Peter Pilgrim will enhance in no
small degree the already brilliant reputation of the author of the

vigorous, searching and profound, and the characters of several
of the most distinguished writers of the present century are
drawn with singular felicity. Altogether it is the effort of a
