GIFTS, GRANTS AND CONTRACTS

In reporting gifts and grants to the Board, the President noted an extraordinary increase in private giving to the University during the period June 30, 1994-February 28, 1995. Some $46.9 million was given, an increase of 18.7% over the same period last year; it is the largest cash flow in the history of the University. Individual giving is up by 14% over the same period last year, corporate giving has increased by 46% and foundation gifts by 19%. There were increases in giving in particular to the School of Medicine, to the Rector and Visitors, to Arts & Sciences, to the Medical Center, to the School of Engineering, to Athletics, and to the University of Virginia Foundation. Giving to the Bayly Museum increased by 176% over the same period last year.
