THE RECTOR AND VISITORS OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
July 16, 1991

The Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia met at 9:00 a.m., in Open Session, on Tuesday, July 16, 1991 at the Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Madison County, Virginia, with the following persons present: Rector Edward E. Elson, Adam S. Arthur, W. L. Lyons Brown, Jr., Robert G. Butcher, Jr., N. Thomas Connally, Hovey S. Dabney, Waller H. Horsley, J. Thomas Hulvey, Evans B. Jessee, Arnold H. Leon, Leigh B. Middleditch, Jr., Elizabeth D. Morie, Freddie W. Nicholas, Sr., S. Buford Scott and Jesse B. Wilson, III. Absent: Patricia M. Kluge and Thomas E. Worrell, Jr. Also present were John T. Casteen, III, Leonard W. Sandridge, Jr., and Jeanne F. Bailes.

After the Rector called the meeting to order, Mr. Dabney presented a motion moving that the Board go into Executive Session.

The following motion was unanimously adopted by the vote of all Visitors present:

That the Board of Visitors go into Executive Session for the evaluation of the President and other senior administrators over the past year; to discuss the salaries of certain personnel in the Health Sciences Center; to evaluate certain departments, including University development and athletic programs; and to consult with General Counsel regarding specific legal matters in accordance with Section 2.1-344 A. (1) and (7) of The Code of Virginia.

Following the Executive Session, the Board resumed its meeting in Open Session and adjourned at 12:25 p.m.

With the Rector presiding, the Board reconvened in Open Session at 1:55 p.m. and approved four resolutions.
