REPORT ON ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT
The President reported that he expects the current semester's enrollment figure to reach no higher than 12,900. There will be further analysis to determine the factors resulting in the unexpected high rate of acceptance this year. Mr. Buford asked for an analysis of the reasons some upper class students did not return. The President advised that this study is already under way, and that it cannot be completed until the end of the late registration period. Preliminary indications reveal that women leave the University prior to graduation at a higher rate than men do. The President pointed out that some of the students who did not re-enroll in the fall had pre-registered and were expected. Mr. Lewis suggested that a preliminary "pre-registration fee" might improve our predictions. The President agreed to study that possibility.
