THE GILMER PROPERTY

The President reported that pursuant to the meeting of the Buildings and Grounds Committee on 13 February 1969, prospective purchasers submitted sealed bids for 1.5 acres of unimproved land located east of Ridge Street in Charlottesville which had been conveyed to the University as a gift. The high bid was $3,500 submitted by Henry H. Bell who wishes title to be conveyed to himself and his wife, Verlease J. Bell, as tenants by entirety.

The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that in consideration for $3,500 cash, the President or Comptroller be and either of them is, with the consent of the Governor first obtained, hereby authorized to convey to Henry H. Bell and Verlease J. Bell, as tenants by the entirety, 1.5 acres of land located east of Ridge Street in the City of Charlottesville, such deed to be subject to the approval of the University's Special Counsel.
