SCHOLARSHIPS.

Eleven University Scholarships are open to new-comers from all
the States at the beginning of the academic year (October 1st); five are in
the Academical Department, and two each in the Departments of Law, Medicine
and Engineering. The scholarship awards are based upon a competitive
examination embracing the elements of English Grammar and Rhetoric,
and the work of the Junior Classes in Latin, Greek and Mathematics. The
right is reserved to reject any papers that do not reach a standard of three-fourths.
The emoluments are free tuition and matriculation.

University Scholar—(18 8-'89)—

D. W. Robinson (A. B., Roanoke College), Law Department.

The Miller Scholarship, established in honor of the founder of the
Agricultural Department, is awarded upon a competitive examination
embracing the subjects of the first year's course in Agriculture. The emoluments
are $25 and free tuition in the Schools of the Agricultural Department.

Miller Scholars—(1888 '89)—

J. L. Jarman, Agricultural Department.

J. S. Callison, Agricultural Department.

The McCormick Scholarship, established in honor of the founder of
the Astronomical Observatory, is awarded by Mr. McCormick. The emoluments
are free tuition and matriculation.

The Corcoran Scholarship was established in honor of Mr. W. W.
Corcoran, a liberal benefactor of the University. The emoluments are
free tuition and matriculation.

The Thompson Brown Scholarship is awarded by the founder.

The Isaac Carey Scholarships are awarded by the Carey Trustees.
