THE CAROLINE HOME GUARD OF 1917-18

Shortly after America's entrance into the World War many
citizens of Caroline who, became of age or other hindrance,
could not enter the regular army, but who desired to express
their loyalty to the nation, came together and organized a company
known as the Home Guard of Caroline County. Led by
a distinguished veteran of the Civil War this company drilled
and practiced regularly and thus became prepared to maintain
law and order at home and, if it came to the worst, were also
prepared to defend hearth and home against any invasion of the
enemy. A roster of the Caroline Home Guard follows:
