Of Captain Smith P. Bankhead's Company, in the First
Regiment of Virginia Volunteers, called into the Service of the
United States by the Secretary of War, under the Act of Congress
approved May 13, 1846, for the term of "during the War with
Mexico, unless sooner discharged." Date of this Muster Roll
December 31, 1846. (See Virginia Militia Muster Roll, pages

Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg, Va. The remnant that survived
the four bloody years surrendered with the Army of Northern
Virginia at Appomattox, Va., April 9, 1865. Compiled by G.
Allensworth, who commanded the Company during the greater
