MEMORIES.

Do you remember, Maud, that night
We stood together, you and I,
And watched the mystic points of light
That glittered in the vaulted sky?
A veiling cloud drew back, a beam
From one effulgent star above
Enwrapped us in its glorious gleam,
The golden glowing star of love.
Beneath the influence of that star
My soul within its prison burned,
Sweet Venus pushed the gates ajar
And then the sweets of love I learned.
(Attributed to) Thomas M. Bowen. December 1st, 1882.
