The Expostulation.
Insulting Charmer of my languish'd Heart,
Canst thou feel Love, and yet not let me go?
Since of my self from thee I cannot part;
Devise some gentle way to let me go.
Canst thou feel Love, and yet not let me go?
Since of my self from thee I cannot part;
Devise some gentle way to let me go.
For what with ease thou didst obtain,
And I with more did give;
In time will make thee false and vain,
And me unfit to live.
And I with more did give;
126
And me unfit to live.
Then let our flaming Hearts be joyn'd
Whole in that smoking Fire,
Ere you prove false or I prove kind,
Together both expire.
Whole in that smoking Fire,
Ere you prove false or I prove kind,
Together both expire.
