Jemmey.

Young Jemmey was a Lad
Of Royal Birth and Breeding,
With every Beauty clad,
And every Swain exceeding:
A Face, a Shape so wond'rous fine,
So charming every part,
That every Lass upon the Green
For Jemmey had a Heart.

132

In Jemmey's powerful eyes
Young Gods of Love were playing,
And on his Face was seen
A thousand Smiles betraying.
But oh he dances with a grace,
None like him e'er was seen;
No God that ever feigned was,
Had e'er so fine a Meen.
To Jemmey every Swain
Did lowly doff his Bonnet,
And every Lass would strain
To praise him with a Sonnet.
The pride of all the Lads he was,
The Joy of all the Groves;
The pleasure of each tender Lass,
The Theme of all our Loves.
But Oh unlucky Fate,
A curse upon Ambition;

133

The busie Fools of late
Have ruined his Condition:
The glittering Hopes have left his Shade,
His glorious Hours are gone,
By flattering Knaves and Fools betray'd,
Poor Jemmey is undone.
