Ovidius exulans or Ovid travestieas | ||
To his worthy friend the Author
'Faith it is very silly don to cryBeauty shews best joyn'd with deformity
That Venus cannot please without her wart,
Nor sweetest sauces unless mixt with tart.
That foyls are always friends to fair ones, I
Whilest I am hammering out some Poetry;
Something in praise of the Authors Book to say,
Doth seem like a bad Prologue to a Play.
But now I think on't better, I am out,
Where the Play's good the Prologue is no doubt.
