On the Author Mr. N. S.

Had Ovid writ his loves in such a strain,
His banishment had been recall'd again.
Bawdy in these Rhimes lawful is; but he
With his obsceness spoil'd good Poetry.
Therefore away to Pontus he must trudge
Cæsar th Prince of Poets being judge:
Here our Translator does even that omit
And in the place of bawdy puts chast wit
Cato may enter, smile too, yet ne're see
Dame Flora naked in her bawdery.
