The Bible.

Who is my Christian brother linked with me
In true communion? He, with whom I look
In common reverence on that sacred Book,
Where, mingled with divinest truth, we see
The vestiges of man's infirmity;
The ignorance which, half-informed, mistook
The seeming for the real. As the brook
Conveys the worthless pebbles to the sea,
With the rich waters, which in mists ascend,
And will fall down in earth-refreshing showers,
So are the blessings of the Bible ours!
Where truths sublimely, beautifully blend,
With the records of virtue, where abide
More light, more love, than in all books beside.
