The Jewes Tragedy, or, Their Fatal and Final Overthrow by Vespatian and Titus his Son | ||
Prologus.
Iudicious friends, our Author bids me say,That he hath labour'd to adorn his Play
With such Varieties; as may befit
The fair deportment of a sober wit.
Stories are strict, and challenge from the Stage,
The true Dimensions of their former Age:
Where Fancy guides the Plot, the Field is wide,
And freely grants what here will be deni'd;
What's wanting to his will by this defect,
Your gentle Censures, and more milde aspect
Will fairly answer; Grant him this, and he
Will study to deserve your Curtesie.
