A QUESTION

Here on the down where the sea-wind is bleak,
Blowing our voices away as we speak,
Stands the grey shepherd with collie and crook,
Reading the sky as a page from a book.
Sheep to the westward and sheep to the east,
Spindle-legged, shivering, recently fleeced!
Shepherd of ewes looking shameful and sad,
Have you as many as Abraham had?
