THE WALLS OF JERICHO

Bob, Jake, and Harry, Tim and Dick,
Each blowing on a trumpet-stick,
Must walk all round as valiant knights
Among the beardy Israelites.
And blow, and blow like anything,
Till all the sandy deserts ring;
For down will topple, if you blow,
The fortress walls of Jericho.
These boxes shall the city be,
And Jane, the cook, has lent them me;
And mother says this scarlet rag
On Daddy's stick can be the flag.

Minnie and I, within the town
Shall be the grizzled guards to frown;
And when the Israelitish host
Is puffing out its cheeks the most,
Then we inside will kick the wall,
And down each orange-box will fall
In just the way that, long ago,
There tumbled towers in Jericho!
