REPORT ON MEETING WITH BLACK FACULTY AND STUDENTS

The President reported to the Board on a meeting held on November 17, 1971 and attended by some members of the Board, some Black faculty members and students, and some members of the administration. Subsequent to the meeting, the black students and faculty members who constituted themselves as The Black Student Alliance Negotiating Committee at the University of Virginia sent a list of "directives and proposals" to the President and members of the Board. These dealt with increasing the number of black faculty and administrative personnel at the University, increasing black enrollment, improvement of the Black Studies Program, improving housing conditions for black students, and the alleviation of pressures and psychological strains placed upon blacks in the University environment. The President announced that he will prepare a written statement to respond to the directives and proposals.
