The EPILOGUE.
Now after all the various Sports of Wit,
I yield to You, who like the Senate sit
In Robes demurely grave, as when the Gaul,
Fierce Brennus, did besiege the Capitol.
Tho' me more Human than the Gaul you've found;
I bow'd with Reverence, but gave no Wound.
I yield to You, who like the Senate sit
In Robes demurely grave, as when the Gaul,
Fierce Brennus, did besiege the Capitol.
Tho' me more Human than the Gaul you've found;
I bow'd with Reverence, but gave no Wound.
And now, Great Sir, to you I make address;
That I've been honest, you must needs confess.
You've heard with how much Innocence I spoke,
No scurril Satire, or ill-natur'd Joke;
How from Obscenity I could decline,
Which always grates a Doctor's Ears and mine;
How nothing tended to malicious Ends.
Then let us all shake Hands, and so part Friends.
That I've been honest, you must needs confess.
You've heard with how much Innocence I spoke,
No scurril Satire, or ill-natur'd Joke;
How from Obscenity I could decline,
Which always grates a Doctor's Ears and mine;
How nothing tended to malicious Ends.
Then let us all shake Hands, and so part Friends.
