9. Ed "Humming Eagle" Ramon (Comanche/Lakota)
Edward Ramon served two combat tours in Vietnam with the United States
Armed Forces, the United States Navy Seals, and the United States Army 5th
Special Forces. Throughout the course of his military career, he received
"The Distinguished Flying Cross" along with forty-four other decorations for his
valor in military service. He grew up in Dekalb, Texas with his parents, Edward Sr.
and Eva Ramon, and three siblings. His younger brother, Edmond, took his own life
on May 4, 1990. Ramon attended graduate school at Oklahoma State University
and continues his extensive research on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
with the intention of assisting other Vietnam Veterans in healing their
own emotional, psychological, and spiritual "war wounds." Ramon is the father
of five children, to whom his book Scars and Stripes Forever! is dedicated.
