ALEXIS' RESOLVE.
Shepherd Alexis, coming from the town,Within the shadow of an oak sat down,
And pondered the inconstant ways of men;
The cuckoo calling down the hollow glen:
Then as the sliding brook ran sweetly by,
He clasped his hands and breathed a happy sigh,
And in his heart with fervent protest swore
To leave these peaceful pastures nevermore.
