SCENE IV

[Night. Eve, undressed in her sleeping-chamber, and alone. Over the bed hangs the chaplet of flowers given her as the Rosière. In her hand she holds the roses given her by Prince Lucifer.]
EVE.
He gave me these; those, Father Gabriel.
Which do I prize the most? O, these! these! these!
Why here dissemble which I love the best?
Those at my head, but these within my breast!

[She sleeps, with his roses in her hand.]
