MACHEN, John Gresham (1881-1937):
American PRESBYTERIAN scholar who taught at Princeton Theological School before being pressured to resign over his support for FUNDAMENTALISM and his continued support for the independent Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. Subsequently he helped in establishing the Westminster Theological Seminary. His many books include Christianity and Liberalism (1923) and What is Faith (1924).
